Jean wrote for children. Children are still in love with the wonders of nature, and she was, too. She told them stories about a boy and a falcon, a girl and an elegant wolf pack, about owls, weasels, foxes, prairie dogs, the alpine tundra, the tropical rain forest. And when the telling was and is done, she hoped they will want to protect all the beautiful creatures and places.

Jean has been inducted into the New York State Writers Hall of Fame
"I am writing on behalf of the New York State Writers Hall of Fame with the happy news that this year’s selection committee has selected Jean Craighead George to be one of its 2016 inductees. The Writers Hall of Fame is administered by the Empire State Center for the Book and celebrates books, literacy, and authors within the State of New York. The Center is the New York State affiliate of the Library of Congress’s National Center for the Book."
"...Prior years living inductees were Robert Caro, E.L. Doctorow, Pete Hamill, Toni Morrison, and Joyce Carol Oates. In 2015 our inductees were Isaac Asimov, Allen Ginsberg, Ezra Jack Keats, Dawn Powell, Francine Prose, David Remnick and Colm Toibin."
With all best regards,
"Noted writers Roger Angell, Roz Chast, Samuel R, Delany, and Stephen Sondheim are among the eight members of the 2016 Class of Inductees into the NYS Writers Hall of Fame. The four will be in attendance at the induction ceremony and dinner on Tuesday evening, June 7, 2016, at the Princeton Club of New York. Rocco Staino, who serves as the Director of the Empire State Center for the Book, made the announcement on February 1, 2016, at The Lambs, America’s oldest theatrical club. The Center for the Book is the organization that oversees the Hall of Fame. In addition, four deceased writers Maya Angelou, Jean Craighead George, Don Marquis, and Grace Paley will also be inducted."
